MINIMAL DEFEAT IN “GYGANTUM”
The team of Kometal Gjorcje Petrov was defeated away in Denmark against the home team of Aalborg with 29-28 (14-13). That is the outcome of the match on which our players weren’t able to repeat the performance from the first match against Gyor although they weren’t totally outplayed by the home players. The defense of Kometal was unusually weak on this match. The players of Aalborg had too much space around the 6 meter line of our goal. The game started well for Kometal, having control of the result until the middle of the first half when we had 2-3 goals lead. Then, the home players took the initiative and made advantage that they kept to the end of the first half that ended 14-13 for them.
Our players played bad in the defense in the second half, too, which resulted with 26-20 lead for Aalborg in the 50th minute of the match. That indicated a big defeat of our team, but a glowing performance followed in the last 10 minutes of the match when our players made 8-3, which was still not enough for success, so the final result was 29-28 for the Danish team.
What we must spot is the refereeing on this match which wasn’t on satisfactory level and there were decisions to our disadvantage, which is obvious by the number of suspension to our players in the key moments.
Still, there are 4 more matches to play and the next 2 of them on home court, so even if this defeat isn’t fully deserved, the first 2 places in the group are still reachable. Kometal will have a chance to prove who is who in this group of the Champions League.
