Two matches of the World Selection in Spain on 4 / 5 June 2005
In more than 50 years of IHF history, the Men’s World Selection has appeared in public only 18 times. Thus their appearance is always something special as is the occasion.Following a mutual agreement between the IHF, the Royal Spanish Handball Federation and the Spanish handball club of Ciudad Real, one match of the World Selection will be played on 4 June 2005 in Ciudad Real, Spain, to bid farewell to double World Handball Player of the Year Talant Dujshebaev. The event is to be staged at the “Pabellon Quijote Arena” starting at 17:00.
Furthermore a second match of the World Selection against the Spanish national team is to follow on 5 June 2005 in Madrid, one of the candidate cities for the 2012 Olympic Games. The match will start at 13:00 at the “Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid”. As agreed between the parties involved, all proceeds achieved will be given to the disaster relief funds for the flood victims in Asia.
Head coach of the World Selection will be legendary Bengt Johansson from Sweden assisted by Peter Kovacs from Hungary. Referee couples for the matches are Vicente Bretó León / José Antonio Huelin and Cristina Fernández Piñeiro / Angel Pablo Permuy Villanueva from Spain.
